Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has stated that his country has a fundamental belief in respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, observing the rule of law, and finding peaceful resolutions to differences and disputes. Before embarking on his state visit to the US, Modi sat down for an interview with the Wall Street Journal and stated that India is fully prepared and committed to protecting its sovereignty and dignity while also respecting international law and the sovereignty of other countries. The Prime Minister emphasized that disputes should always be resolved through diplomacy and dialogue, and not through war. He also said that India is not neutral but rather on the side of peace.

Modi spoke about the United Nations Security Council and stated that there needs to be an examination of its current membership. Furthermore, the world should be asked if it wants India to be there. He added that India is genuinely committed to doing everything it can to bring an end to conflicts and ensure lasting peace and stability. India hopes to have normal bilateral ties with China, and to achieve that, peace and tranquillity in the border areas are essential.

Modi reflected on his roots and said in the interview that as the first Prime Minister to be born in free India, his thought process, conduct and actions are inspired and influenced by his country’s traditions and attributes. He derives his strength from them and presents himself to the world as he is.

During the same interview, PM Modi touched on the unprecedented trust between the leaders of India and the US. He stated that while India does not want to replace any other country, it deserves a much higher, deeper, and wider profile and role in the world. The Prime Minister said the world today is interconnected more than ever before, and there should be more diversification in supply chains to create resilience.

In conclusion, India’s core belief in respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, observing the rule of law, and finding peaceful resolutions to differences and disputes is a fundamental principle that guides its foreign policy. The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, emphasized that India’s top priority is peace. As India aims to gain its rightful position in the world, it is willing to do whatever it can and supports all genuine efforts to bring about enduring peace and stability in the world.
