The Indian government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $130 million loan agreement to improve agricultural productivity, promote horticulture businesses and enhance irrigation access in Himachal Pradesh. The project will enable an increase in income and climate resilience for at least 15,000 farm households across seven districts in the region. The districts are unproductive due to reduced farming and lack of irrigation facilities and migratory damage from wild and stray animals. The project will aid in farming and on-farm irrigation and water management, rehabilitating 6,000 hectares of farmland, and building new irrigation schemes. These efforts will increase the income and sustainability of the farming communities.
