Insha Mushtaq, who lost her eyesight due to a pellet gun attack during the 2016 summer agitation in Jammu and Kashmir, has passed her class 12 board exams with flying colours. The 22-year-old student scored 319 out of 500 marks in the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education exams. Insha credits her success to her support system and indomitable spirit, despite the challenges she faced due to her blindness. She also expressed gratitude to Jammu and Kashmir Centre For Peace And Justice (JKCPJ) for their support in rehabilitating her and providing her with education.

Insha aims to pursue her bachelor’s degree and take coaching classes for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. She hopes to become an IAS officer and be an inspiration for visually impaired people across the country. Insha highlighted the need for more schools for the visually impaired in different parts of India, with a particular focus on the Kashmir valley, where awareness of the issue is limited.

Insha was hit by pellets on July 11, 2016, three days after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Many other people were also victimized by pellet guns during the agitation that lasted a few months. Despite the challenges she faced, Insha never lost hope and continued to study with the encouragement of her family. Her supporters hope that her remarkable achievement will inspire others to strive for success despite any challenge they may face.
