Indian women wrestlers made their country proud by clinching seven gold medals on the third day of the U-17 Asian Wrestling Championships 2023 in Bishkek, Kazakhstan. Parveen, Neha, Siksha, and Kajal were some of the young talents who won gold medals and kept the Indian flag flying high. The Indian women’s wrestling team secured the championship title by winning a total of seven golds, one silver, and one bronze medal. These seven medals added to the 10 India had already earned on the first two days of the competition.
India’s Parveen won gold in the U-17 women’s wrestling 43 kg weight category, while Neha triumphed in the women’s 57 kg. Another Khelo India star, Kajal, bagged the third gold medal by winning the women’s 73 kg weight category. Shiksha claimed gold in the women’s wrestling 65kg, adding to India’s impressive medal haul. Meanwhile, Saurabh won silver in the freestyle 80kg weight category, and Khelo India grappler Narendar bagged bronze in the 71 kg freestyle. Sourabh secured the other bronze medal on Monday, finishing third in the men’s freestyle 65 kg weight category.
On the first two days of the tournament, India’s Srishti (Women’s 69 kg), Savita (Women’s 61 kg), and Rachana (Women’s 40 kg) won gold medals, while Suraj (Greco-Roman 55 kg), Siddhanath Krishna Patil (Greco-Roman 48 kg), Sachin Kumar (Greco-Roman 65 kg), Aman (Greco-Roman 80 kg), and Muskan (Women’s 46 kg) claimed silver medals in their respective categories. India’s Ronak (Greco-Roman 110 kg) and Ranjita (Women’s 53 kg) also won bronze medals for the team.
The U-23 Asian Wrestling Championship is scheduled to begin on June 15 at the same venue. India has put up a team of 60 wrestlers for both competitions. With their outstanding performance so far, the Indian wrestlers are sure to raise the country’s hopes for more success in the upcoming tournament.
