India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, met with Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Musabayana, to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations and explore ways to enhance them further. The meeting took place in New Delhi on the sidelines of the CII-EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Growth Partnership. They discussed the long history of close and cordial relations between India and Zimbabwe and the shared positions they hold on issues such as intellectual property rights and agricultural subsidies.

The Vice President of Zimbabwe, Constantino Chiwenga, is also attending the CII-EXIM Bank Conclave and has arrived in New Delhi. His visit is expected to strengthen the development partnership, trade, and economic ties between the two countries. This visit is seen as a welcome boost to India-Zimbabwe development partnership and trade and economic ties.

India and Zimbabwe are both members of the G20 in the World Trade Organization and often support each other in multilateral fora and in their respective resolutions in the United Nations.

The CII-EXIM Bank Conclave on India-Africa Project Partnership, launched in 2005 with the support of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has played a crucial role in encouraging Indian companies to establish and grow their footprints in Africa.

This year, the Conclave is being renamed the CII EXIM Bank Conclave on India Africa Growth Partnership to reflect the changing contours of India-Africa economic engagement. The focus of the upcoming edition is on project exports, trade, investments, and the exchange of knowledge and expertise that creates shared value for businesses and industries between India and Africa.

The meeting between the ministers of India and Zimbabwe and the visit of Zimbabwe’s Vice President underscores the importance the two countries place on strengthening their bilateral relations and exploring new areas of cooperation.
