The tech sector partnership between India and the US will accelerate innovation in emerging technologies for mutual and global benefit, according to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT. The partnership, announced during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent state visit to the US, will begin with a memorandum of understanding on critical and emerging technologies. The leaders called on governments, businesses and academic institutions to realise their shared vision for the strategic technology partnership. Chandrasekhar commented that those technologies, including OpenRAN wireless networks, semiconductors, high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and quantum, will shape the future of technology and economies in a profound way. He added that Prime Minister Modi foresaw the deep impact of technology on people’s lives and opportunities for India’s youth with his ‘Digital India’ vision. In the last nine years, Modi’s policies have resulted in creating a vibrant internet and ConsumerTech innovation ecosystem, an AI programme, an electronics and semiconductor ecosystem, high-performance computing platforms and a multi-billion dollar quantum mission, and a wireless technologies programme with 5G and 6G.
