According to recent reports, 260 people are still undergoing treatment in various hospitals across Odisha as a result of the recent triple train accident in Balasore. Additionally, 900 passengers have been discharged so far. Three Union ministers have visited the state-run hospital to meet with patients and doctors for updates on the situation. While the condition of most patients is stable, one remains in critical condition.
The number of patients needing critical care has been a concern, with doctors from three premier health facilities in New Delhi – AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Hospital, and RML Hospital – being brought in to assist with treatment. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has held a review meeting with senior doctors and officials of the health facility in the state capital, expressing that a working plan has also been prepared.
The train accident, which involved the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah super fast, and a goods train, resulted in the death of at least 275 people in Balasore on June 2. While investigators work to determine the cause of the accident, authorities have cited possible human error and signal failure as factors to explore.
Although over 1,100 passengers have been affected by the tragedy, efforts are being made to ensure that adequate care is provided for the injured. The ministers’ visit to the hospitals where patients are being treated signifies the government’s commitment to helping those who have been impacted by the accident.
