Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the Indian government’s decision to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Kharif crops to mark Kharif Marketing Year 2023-24. He stated that the increase in MSP will financially empower farmers and bring comprehensive change to their lives. CM Yogi expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that this decision is dedicated to the welfare of farmers. The Union Cabinet approved the increase in MSP on Thursday for Kharif crops, providing farmers with remunerative prices for their produce and encouraging crop diversification. The MSP for paddy (common variety) has been hiked from Rs 2,040 per 100 kg to Rs 2,183. For Grade A variety, it was hiked from Rs 2,060 to Rs 2,203. The MSP for millets such as bajra and ragi, has been hiked from Rs 2,350 to Rs 2,500; and Rs 3,578 to Rs 3,846. Additionally, the MSP for pulses tur, moong, and urad, was also increased to Rs 7,000; Rs 8,558, Rs 6,950 respectively. Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal stated that total food grain production for the agricultural year 2022-23 is forecast at 330.5 million tonnes which is the highest increase in the last five years. Goyal reiterated this fact during a press conference, citing the third advance estimates for 2022-23.
