The Income Tax Department of India has announced that over 6 crore (60 million) income tax returns (ITRs) have been filed to date. Out of this number, nearly 26.76 lakh (2.67 million) ITRs were filed on the same day, bringing the total number of filings for the day to 6:30 pm to 26.76 lakh. In addition to the significant number of ITR filings, the department also revealed that the e-filing portal witnessed more than 1.30 crore (13 million) successful logins until 6:30 pm on the same day. This indicates a high level of engagement and usage of the portal for tax-related activities.
The IT department further stated that their helpdesk is available 24×7 to assist taxpayers with ITR filing, tax payments, and other related services. They are providing support through various channels, including calls, live chats, WebEx sessions, and social media.
The department expressed their gratitude to all the taxpayers and tax professionals for their cooperation in reaching this milestone. They also urged those who have not yet filed their ITR for the assessment year 2023-24 to do so at the earliest to avoid any last-minute rush.
