Imo PDP Launches Campaign Council with Support from Okorocha and Araraume
The Imo chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has kickstarted its campaign for the upcoming governorship election in the state. With the support of two influential figures from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rochas Okorocha and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, the PDP is ready to challenge the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodimma.
During the launch event held in Owerri, Okorocha endorsed PDP candidate Senator Samuel Anyanwu through his Rescue Mission Group, while Araraume expressed his support through the Destiny Organisation.
The campaign council, which was inaugurated by the party’s Chairman, Mr Charles Ugwu, sees Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the Federal House of Representatives, take on the role of Director-General, with Prince Marshal Okoroaforanyanwu serving as Secretary.
Ugwu urged the council members to work diligently towards securing victory for the PDP in the upcoming election. Anyanwu, the PDP candidate, outlined his aspirations for the state, emphasizing his commitment to addressing issues such as insecurity, healthcare, workers’ rights, and tourism.
In his address to the council, Anyanwu urged them not to be intimidated and to fulfill their lawful duties. He declared, I will lead and I fear nobody. I want to stop the bloodletting and suffering in the land.
Secretary of the council, Okoroaforanyanwu, highlighted the significance of Anyanwu’s candidacy, stating that his selection aligns with the principle of equity. He pointed out that the Imo East senatorial district, to which Anyanwu belongs, has had limited opportunities to govern the state since 1999.
Okoroaforanyanwu, a former Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance and the Social Democratic Party, called on the people of Imo to rally behind Anyanwu and help restore the state’s lost glory.
As the campaign begins, the PDP aims to present a strong opposition to the incumbent governor, challenging his administration’s track record and promising a better future for Imo State. The coming months will undoubtedly see intense political battles and debates as various parties strive to win over the electorate.
