An Imam, Maulana Nizamuddin, has been arrested in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, for allegedly raping a woman after deceitfully promising her love and marriage, then forcing her to convert to Islam. Six others were accused of assisting in the act.
The victim says Nizamuddin’s son, Mohammad Hussain, first approached her in 2016, and Nizamuddin then tricked her by pretending to be unmarried and convincing her that he loved her. She claims that he raped her and got her pregnant, before his family, including Nizamuddin himself, invaded her home, raped her again, created obscene videos, and threatened to behead her.
The victim also says that Nizamuddin used triple talaq to force her to sign for the marriage and then threatened to kill her and threw her out of his home. She then reported the crime to the police.
Nizamuddin has also been accused of cheating on many other women in the past, playing with their lives, and then sending them away. He has now been sent to jail, charged with the rape and forced conversion of the woman.
According to the Rural Moradabad Superintendant of Police, Sandeep Kumar Meena, the case is looking into the crimes of Nizamuddin and six others. After raping the victim, Nizamuddin forcibly converted her by producing a fake marriage receipt on December 20, 2016.
The victim, who resides in the Dilari Police Station area, has filed a complaint against Nizamuddin and the six other individuals. She has also shared her experience with the media to spread awareness regarding the issue.
This case highlights the need for a deeper understanding of consent, respect for different religions, and punishment of those who commit heinous crimes against women. The arrest of Nizamuddin and the investigation into the other accused individuals could send a strong message to society that such actions will not be tolerated.
