A tragic incident unfolded at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, as a final-year B.Tech student was discovered dead in his hostel room. The police have ruled out foul play in this unfortunate event.

The victim, identified as Ayush Ashna, was a 20-year-old resident of Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly. Concerns arose when his room in the Udaigiri hostel was found locked from the inside, prompting a call to the Kishangarh police station around midnight on Sunday.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police and Ayush’s family were confronted with the devastating reality. The room was opened in front of his family, and his lifeless body was discovered. Unfortunately, no suicide note was found, leaving behind a shroud of unanswered questions.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West), Manoj C., expressed that foul play is not suspected in the case. Instead, the police are currently pursuing proceedings under Section 174 CrPC. Investigations are underway to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Ayush’s untimely passing.

According to officers, Ayush’s mother and brother revealed that he had been struggling with his performance in a few subjects during his final-year examinations. The pressure and dissatisfaction from his academic setbacks may have taken a toll on his mental well-being.

Interestingly, Ayush’s older brother, Rahul, had also graduated from IIT Delhi back in 2015. Having a sibling who had successfully navigated the challenges of the prestigious institution may have added to Ayush’s own feelings of inadequacy.

The administration of IIT Delhi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident, highlighting the suddenness and unfortunate nature of Ayush’s passing. They fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation to provide any assistance required.

In moments like these, it is crucial to address the topic of mental health and support those in need. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, please contact Sanjivini, Society for Mental Health’s suicide prevention helpline at 011-40769002.

This incident at IIT Delhi serves as a reminder of the significant pressures and challenges students face during their academic journeys. It is essential to cultivate a supportive atmosphere, offering resources and guidance to help students navigate the ups and downs.

As this tragic event continues to be investigated, it is imperative to approach the subject with empathy and understanding. The loss of Ayush Ashna is a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of mental health and the need to address it proactively within educational institutions and society as a whole.
