IISER Tirupati, in collaboration with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in the UK, is launching an exciting science camp for state school students. The three-day residential program, known as the RSC-Yusuf Hamied Chemistry camp, aims to promote academic excellence in science, particularly Chemistry, among students in the region.
The camp, scheduled to take place from July 28 to 30 at the IISER campus in Yerpedu, is designed for students studying in the ninth grade at state government schools. It seeks to enhance students’ understanding and interest in Chemistry through interactive sessions, hands-on experiments, and engaging lectures delivered by teacher mentors.
With a vision to create awareness about the importance of science, especially Chemistry, in everyday life, the camp aims to ignite a passion for the subject among participants. A total of 80 students, including an equal number of boys and girls from various schools in and around Tirupati, were nominated by the Department of School Education to attend the camp.
The collaboration between IISER Tirupati and the Department of Higher Education aims to extend the benefits of this program to deserving students in the region. IISER Tirupati will provide all necessary academic materials, as well as lodging and boarding facilities for the participants. The hope is that such training programs will not only motivate students to pursue careers in science but also help them grasp the fundamental concepts of Chemistry.
Dr. V Sekhar, the District Education Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for this novel concept and believed that the students would greatly benefit from the training. He emphasized the value of IISER Tirupati’s agreement to offer similar training programs for teachers in the future, highlighting the institution’s commitment to promoting science education in the region.
This initiative from IISER Tirupati and RSC UK marks an important step forward in encouraging academic excellence and fostering a passion for Chemistry among state school students. By providing an engaging and inspiring learning experience, the camp aims to lay the foundation for future scientists and enable students to appreciate Chemistry’s relevance in their daily lives. It is an opportunity for students to explore the wonders of science and further develop their scientific curiosity and skills.
With an emphasis on hands-on learning and interactive sessions, students participating in the camp will gain valuable insights and practical knowledge, fostering a deeper understanding of Chemistry. This immersive experience is expected to spark interest and curiosity, paving the way for a lifelong love of science.
The IISER Tirupati and RSC UK collaborative science camp is an excellent initiative that highlights the importance of promoting STEM education and nurturing scientific talent from a young age. By creating such opportunities, institutions like IISER Tirupati and organizations like RSC UK contribute to building a strong foundation for scientific research and development in the region.
Through this residential science camp, IISER Tirupati and RSC UK are making a significant and positive impact on science education by inspiring and empowering students to pursue their interests in Chemistry. The hope is that this program will encourage future generations to become scientists and contribute to society through their scientific endeavors.
