A hydrogen Hyundai sports car based on the retro N Vision 74 concept is reportedly set to become a reality in 2026, according to Korean outlet ETNews. Industry sources suggest that the 596kW coupe will be limited to just 100 units, with 70 available for public purchase and the remaining 30 reserved for racing. This news comes as a surprise after Hyundai executives previously stated that the project would not go into production. However, recent trademarking of the N74 name and comments from Hyundai N vice president Till Wartenberg suggesting his personal desire to see the car on the streets indicate a potential shift in plans. The hydrogen-electric drivetrain is expected to exceed power expectations, boasting 800hp or 596kW, an improvement from the 500kW of the concept. The sports car should be capable of reaching 100km/h from rest in just three seconds. While the cruising range is expected to decrease from 600km to around 400-500km for the production model, a recent patent filing to the US Patent and Trademark Office detailing the arrangement of hydrogen fuel tanks further indicates the likelihood of the car coming to fruition. Inspired by the 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept, the N Vision 74 could potentially utilize components from Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N performance flagship model. With its dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain and impressive outputs, the Ioniq 5 N could provide a basis for the hydrogen sports car. As Hyundai’s plans continue to develop, enthusiasts eagerly await the official debut of this retro-inspired hydrogen-powered masterpiece.
