Human Brains Found More Efficient than AI in Learning Process, Oxford Study Shows

The human brain has been found to outperform artificial intelligence (AI) due to its nimble and flexible thinking, according to a recent study conducted by Oxford University. The research suggests that the brain operates in a fundamentally different and quicker way compared to machine learning algorithms.

Unlike AI, which relies on refining all possible solutions to minimize errors, humans and animals can learn something after just one exposure without spending additional time or energy on problem-solving. For instance, if both bears were to go deaf, the AI bear would mistakenly assume that there is no food because it can no longer hear the sound of the water. In contrast, the organic brain would recognize that although the sound is absent, the smell of the fish remains, indicating the continued presence of food.

Although the research is still in its early stages, the team hopes that further work will uncover more insights into how brains function and what underlies their nimble and flexible thinking. The lead researcher of the study, Prof. Rafal Bogacz, highlights the need to bridge the gap between abstract models of prospective configuration and the detailed knowledge of brain anatomy and networks.

The study’s results, published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, provide valuable insights that could potentially revolutionize the development of AI and lead to the creation of a computer brain that replicates the efficiency of human thinking.
