A woman in San Francisco has decided to change her career path from copywriting to dog walking after she was replaced by an artificial intelligence (AI) tool called ChatGPT in her tech startup role. Olivia Lipkin, a 25-year-old writer, was let go from her job without explanation, after open-source AI chatbot ChatGPT was launched by OpenAI in November last year. Lipkin had noticed articles about ChatGPT circulating in her office’s internal Slack group which provided guidance on utilizing the chatbot. ChatGPT was being used as a cost-saving measure to replace Lipkin’s role at the company. Following her dismissal, Lipkin contemplated content marketing work, but found it to be overwhelming. Instead, she chose to take a break from corporate life and now works as a dog walker. Individuals are seeking the most affordable option, and that option is not a human being but rather a robot, she noted.
