Ajay Todi, a former daily wage labourer, has transformed his village into a social media sensation with his dance academy based in Asansol, West Bengal. Todi, fondly known as JD Sir, balances life between his construction sites work and teaching dance to his students at the nondescript academy set up within his two-room brick structure. Having attracted a significant following on Instagram, Todi’s popularity has seen students come from even far-flung places in Maharashtra and Haryana, lured by the prospect of training at his academy. Despite generating social media buzz, Todi’s earnings are modest, with a monthly income of around INR 8K. However, the academy’s videos have inspired many residents, including Todi’s relatives, to discover their love for dance and social media platforms to gain popularity.
