House May Open Biden Impeachment Inquiry in September Over Withheld Documents: McCarthy

The Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), has announced that the House may open an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in September if the administration continues to withhold documents and deny House committees access to interviews. In an interview with Fox Business, McCarthy stated that if the Biden administration refuses to provide information that could clarify the questions raised by the House committees investigating the Biden family, then they will move forward with impeachment proceedings.

According to McCarthy, the key factor in this determination is how the Bidens handle the situation. If they cooperate and provide the requested documents, there would be no need for an impeachment inquiry. However, if they continue to withhold information and deny the American public their right to know, then the House will proceed with an impeachment inquiry when they return from recess in September.

The House is scheduled to reconvene on September 12th. McCarthy referred to the findings of the House Oversight Committee, which revealed that Joe Biden was present during some of his son Hunter’s business meetings, had meetings with foreign oligarchs who had financially supported Hunter Biden, and that members of his family were paid by Chinese companies.

McCarthy emphasized that the American public deserves to know whether the Bidens were involved in any corruption or illegal activities. He questioned why the documents that could prove their innocence were not being provided, adding that the statements made by Vice President Biden during his presidential campaign have been contradicted and changed.

The Department of Justice has cited an ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden’s criminal case as the reason for their inability to provide documents, testimony, or information. However, much of the information obtained by the committees’ investigation has come from whistleblowers and subpoenas of bank records.

McCarthy also addressed the appointment of David Weiss, the lead U.S. attorney on the Hunter Biden investigation, as special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland. He made it clear that they would not allow Weiss to avoid testifying or handing over documents on the grounds of an ongoing investigation or his new role as special counsel. McCarthy stated that if the special counsel claim is used to withhold information, it will be seen as a political move and will not deter them. In that case, they will proceed with an impeachment inquiry and still obtain the necessary documents.

In recent weeks, the House committees investigating the Biden family have increased their requests for documents and testimony. However, due to the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden, it is unlikely that these requests will be fulfilled. For instance, Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) have subpoenaed four officials from the IRS and FBI for depositions.

The House’s potential impeachment inquiry into President Biden raises significant questions and highlights the ongoing investigations into the Biden family. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen how the Biden administration will respond and whether the requested documents will be provided to avoid further escalation. The American public awaits transparency and answers regarding these allegations.
