We’re often asked why (and how) we provide end-of-life services to individuals with a terminal illness. The answer for us is simple: we love what we do, helping our community members, and being able to be a part of an intimate time in someone’s life; helping them to reach inner peace, providing them comfort, and enabling them to pass with dignity. For many of us, working at Hospice of the Plains, Inc. is a true calling, feeling complete, and knowing that we have found our special place within the healthcare spectrum.

We were elated to see the community’s turnout for the recent 21st Annual Elk’s Auction and Hog Roast benefiting our rural organization. These events help us bridge the gap to continue providing the same superior care that our communities have come to expect from us. These funds are utilized for our non-reimbursable areas under the hospice umbrella, including durable medical equipment (DME), bereavement services, volunteer services, and pharmaceuticals. These funds are utilized to also provide care to those patients without insurance, providing them with charity funding and ensuring that they aren’t left without services when they need them the most!

We at Hospice of the Plains would wholeheartedly like to thank the Sterling Elk’s Lodge for putting on this event for us, making this annual event possible and bringing this event to Northeastern Colorado for the last 21 years. Through their generosity and dedication to our local non-profit, we are able to raise these funds, benefiting our patients and their families. We would like to also extend our gratitude to all of our local businesses, artists, and individuals who donated to The 21st Annual Elk’s Auction and Hog Roast, thanking also our wonderful volunteers from The High Plains 4-H club, The Little Britches 4-H, various other 4-H clubs, SHS National Honor Society, SHS Lady Tigers Basketball, and the NJC Girls Volleyball team – congratulating them also on becoming Region 9 Champions and participating in the National Volleyball Tournament.

We would like to give a monumental thank you to Jim, Becky, Jason, Camille, Dylan, Hunter, and Cynthia with Sterling Livestock Commission, John Korrey, and their team for making this auction possible. It is through their auctioneer chants, captivating charisma, and established reputation within our communities that enable organizations like ours to have successful auctions year after year.

Last but definitely not least, we would like to thank all of our community members for their participation, coming out each year to show their support for Hospice of the Plains and making this year one of our best turnouts in recent years! It takes special communities, like ours in Northeastern Colorado, coming together and supporting our local organizations, making this one of the reasons why Hospice of the Plains is so lucky to be able to call Northeastern Colorado counties home.
