TOWN OF AURORA, WI – The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into a reported homicide at Almost Home Again, a mental health and alcohol/drug abuse recovery facility. The victim, 61-year-old Joseph B. Bonney, was found unresponsive at the facility. After assessing the scene, investigators and EMS crews discovered the presence of bruising around Bonney’s neck and other indications of a struggle, leading them to conclude that asphyxiation and strangulation were the cause of his death. Authorities are currently treating Bonney’s case as a homicide.

Sheriff Larry Woebbeking stated, Our team was alerted to the situation at Almost Home Again, where we discovered Mr. Bonney deceased. The presence of bruising and other evidence of a struggle has led us to believe that this tragic incident was indeed a homicide. While investigators have identified a suspect, no arrests have been made at this time. Sheriff Woebbeking assured the public that there is currently no imminent danger to their safety.

The leadership at Almost Home Again expressed deep sadness upon learning about Bonney’s untimely death. In a statement released earlier today, they said, We are devastated by the loss of Joseph Bonney, a valued member of our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.

Almost Home Again is well-known in Taylor County for providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals battling mental health issues and substance abuse. The facility’s primary focus is on facilitating long-term recovery through evidence-based treatment programs.

The news of this homicide has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community of Aurora. Residents are left questioning the safety and security of the town they call home. Many have expressed their concerns and sympathies for Bonney’s family, while also urging law enforcement to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrator to justice.

As authorities continue their investigation, the sheriff’s office encourages anyone with information relating to Joseph Bonney’s death to come forward. They are confident that with the help of the community, they will be able to identify and apprehend the suspect swiftly.

In the meantime, the community of Aurora mourns the loss of one of their own. Despite the tragedy that has struck their town, residents have come together to support one another and demonstrate the strength and resilience they are known for.

The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office will provide updates as the investigation progresses. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
