Homes Under the Hammer Star Opens Up on Lung Cancer Diagnosis After Being Fired
Homes Under the Hammer star Tommy Walsh has revealed that he is currently battling lung cancer. The 67-year-old made the sad announcement during a presentation at The Swallows Head & Neck Cancer charity event in November. While discussing the prevalence of the disease, Walsh opened up about his personal experience.
According to Walsh, he went for an emergency appointment after experiencing a persistent cough. During his speech, he shared, I have an emergency appointment at 9am tomorrow morning back in London. I had a chest infection, had to go to the doctor, and they sent me up to the hospital for a CT scan and they think there’s a three-centimeter tumor in the lung. Despite the somber news, Walsh remained grateful for the opportunity to speak at the conference and for the support he received from the attendees.
Since revealing his diagnosis, Walsh has remained relatively quiet about his current condition. It is unclear whether he is in remission or if the cancer has progressed further.
This is not the first time Walsh has faced cancer. In 2022, just a year after joining the BBC show, he disclosed that he had been secretly battling throat cancer, which followed the removal of two lumps from his chest twenty years earlier.
Tragically, news of Tommy’s lung cancer diagnosis emerged shortly after he was dropped from the Homes Under the Hammer presenting lineup. The show’s producers decided to bring in former weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans in an effort to target a younger audience.
A source connected to the show revealed to The Sun that Evans had been on their radar for some time, saying, They have been keen to get Owain onto one of their popular shows for a while — he will add a new dynamic. While Tommy will still appear in the upcoming series alongside Evans due to filming delays, the BBC intends to make Evans a permanent fixture on the show moving forward.
Homes Under the Hammer airs daily on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer at 11 am.
