Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting on Tuesday to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting focused on reviewing the functioning of the security grid and various aspects related to security in the Union Territory. The recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir were a key point of discussion, with Shah emphasizing the importance of complete area domination and better coordination among police, army, and central armed police forces deployed in the region.
Another crucial topic addressed was the need to enhance and strengthen local intelligence in Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister also stated that he would review the area domination plan, zero-terror plan, law and order situation, and cases related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other security-related issues.
Several high-ranking officials attended the meeting, including Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director of the National Investigation Agency Dinkar Gupta, Directors General of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Border Security Force, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of the Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande.
The timing of this meeting is significant, as it comes just days after an encounter in Rajouri’s Poonch region where four soldiers were killed and three were injured. In recent years, the Pir Panjal region, which comprises Rajouri and parts of Reasi districts, has seen a rise in militancy, resulting in the loss of lives of several army personnel.
Home Minister Amit Shah has consistently expressed his commitment to eliminating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Last year, he chaired a similar high-level review meeting where he stated that all security agencies are engaged in a decisive battle against terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A comprehensive 360-degree security mechanism is being strengthened to completely eradicate the support and information systems of terrorists.
These security meetings demonstrate the government’s determination to maintain peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir. The focus on improving coordination and intelligence, along with the review of existing plans, reflects a proactive approach in combating terrorism. With the collective efforts of law enforcement agencies and the continued support of the central government, the aim is to restore lasting peace and stability to the region.
