The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has called on Hindu voters to support candidates who favour the establishment of a Hindu nation in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections in India. The HJS is a Hindutva outfit that works towards the establishment of a Hindu Rashtra. The organisation urged Hindu voters to vote only for candidates who support a nationwide ban on cattle slaughter, an anti-conversion law, and stringent laws to punish those who mock Hindu deities, Hindu dharma, and the Hindu way of life.

The HJS also called for the repeal of regressive laws such as the Places of Worship Act and the Waqf Act in their election manifesto. At the convention held in Goa’s Panjim, the HJS national guide, Charudatta Pingale, asked Hindu voters not to be swayed by promises of freebies, but to only support candidates who are in favour of protecting Hindu interests.

The Maharashtra Mandir Mahasangh coordinator, Sunil Ghanwat, called for temple premises to be free from alcohol and meat. He also demanded implementing a dress code for those visiting temples, claiming that such a dress code is already enforced in 131 temples in Maharashtra to protect temple culture. Ghanwat also urged Hindus to pressure authorities to free temples from government control.

The HJS’s primary objective is to establish a Hindu Rashtra or a Hindu nation. The organisation’s website states that the state of the society, Nation, and Dharma is on the decline due to a secular democracy. The HJS is working to achieve this goal through education on Dharma and by protecting the religion.

With the rise of PM Narendra Modi’s government in 2014, fundamentalist Hindu organisations have gained a new lease on life and intensified their calls for the establishment of a Hindu Rashtra, which goes against India’s founding principles as a secular-democratic republic.

In summary, the HJS has urged Hindu voters to support candidates who will protect Hindu interests and establish a Hindu nation in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. They have called for a ban on cattle slaughter, anti-conversion laws, and laws to punish those who mock Hindu deities, dharma and the Hindu way of life. They also want to repeal regressive laws and implement a dress code for temple visitors while freeing temples from government control.
