Hindus Detained After Disrupting Milad un Nabi Procession in Hyderabad
Hyderabad, India – A group of Hindus has been detained by officials after inciting disruption during a Milad un Nabi procession in Ziaguda, Hyderabad. A video of the incident went viral on October 1, showing several men chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and hindering traffic as the procession came to a halt.
The annual Milad-un-Nabi procession, which celebrates the birth of Prophet Muhammad, was postponed to October 1 this year to avoid a clash with the Ganesh immersion festivities. However, it seems that the rescheduled date did not prevent tensions from flaring up.
Telangana MLA T Raja Singh, known for his Islamophobic statements and hate speeches, claimed that the ‘Hindu karyakarthas’ (workers) were picked up by police in the wee hours of the night after raising slogans of Jai Shri Ram. Singh criticized the investigation, calling it ‘one-sided’ and demanding a fair probe.
Singh alleged that the Hindu group responded to slogans from a group of Muslims who were part of the procession, emphasizing that saying Jai Shri Ram should not be considered a crime. He warned officials that if the investigation continued to favor one side, his supporters would respond in kind.
It is worth mentioning that Singh is no stranger to controversy. He was suspended by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and even served a jail term in August 2022 for his derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad. Singh is also currently facing charges in 101 cases, primarily related to disturbing communal harmony.
In a separate incident under Hussaini Alam police station limits, an FIR (First Information Report) was registered against individuals accused of trespassing into a civilian’s residence and damaging the door of a Ram temple.
The case has been registered under Sections 447, 427, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. These sections pertain to criminal trespass, mischief causing damage, criminal intimidation, and acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention, respectively.
The authorities are taking these incidents seriously and are investigating to ensure that law and order are maintained. The intention is to prevent any escalation of communal tensions, especially during significant religious events.
