A Hindu family in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh has slapped a kafan (white cloth) on their daughter who married a Muslim boy. In the video that went viral on social media platforms, family members can be seen giving the girl the white cloth, which represents her death, and declaring her dead. The girl had gone missing about a year ago, and her family had lodged a complaint at the Nahargarh police station. Police traced her and called her to record a statement.
On Sunday, the girl came to the police station with her husband, Sahil Mansoori, a resident of Sanjeet Naka, Mandsaur. However, when the girl’s family members arrived at the station, they tried to convince her to come with them, but she remained firm on her decision to stay with her husband. Upset with her choice, family members declared her dead and put the white cloth on her inside the police station. The family members considered their daughter dead since she changed her religion and married a Muslim boy.
The video of the incident went viral, and the Mandsaur SP Anurag Sujania suspended assistant sub-inspector and two constables who were present on duty. The police officers neglected their duty, and their negligence was responsible for the video being made at the police station. The investigation of the case is ongoing.
The incident has once again raised the issue of religious intolerance. Such incidents are not uncommon in India, where interfaith marriages often result in violence. The government must take strict action against those who promote hatred and intolerance based on religion. It is essential to ensure that everyone has the right to choose their religion, and nobody should be discriminated against based on their choices.
