Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed government officials to be prepared for any flood-related emergency as monsoon season begins in the northeastern state. In a video conference with senior officials, Sarma requested all government organizations including NHAI, NHIDC, NDRF and SDRF should be alert to help affected flood victims. The chief minister also asked for the pre-positioning of NDRF and SDRF personnel in vulnerable regions and activation of the early warning system to alert inhabitants. He recommended that embankments breached during floods in 2022 should be assessed and precautionary measures should be taken. Sarma directed DCs to set up relief camps in low-lying areas and streamlined relief distribution in these centers. He also reviewed the preparedness of medical teams, including the availability of medicine stock, to meet any emergency. Officials have been asked to keep vigil in landslide-prone areas and take remedial steps in case of heavy rain.
