Himachal Pradesh is set to rename its State Handicraft and Handloom Corporation as Himcraft Corporation in an effort to improve its functioning and establish its products as a distinct brand in the market. This announcement was made by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during the 9th National Handloom Day function held at Gaiety Theatre in Shimla.

The rebranding aims to enhance the operations of the corporation and promote its unique products in the market. In addition to this, the state government plans to introduce state-level awards in three different categories to recognize and appreciate individuals who have made remarkable contributions in the field of handloom and handicrafts. This initiative is intended to encourage excellence in the traditional crafts of Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to revamping the system and urged the people of Himachal Pradesh to cooperate in the process of bringing about change. He held the previous government and its policies responsible for the economic crisis in the state. Sukhu emphasized that the government is making relentless efforts to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and revive its economy within the next four years. The ultimate goal is for the state to become the most prosperous in the country within the next decade.

During his address, the Chief Minister expressed his concern regarding the estimated loss of Rs 8 to 10 thousand crores caused by recent torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides in the state. These natural calamities have severely affected the tourism industry, which is a significant source of revenue for Himachal Pradesh. Sukhu assured the people that the state government is working diligently to restore normalcy and expedite the transportation of farmers’ produce, such as apples and vegetables, to the markets. The damaged roads are also being repaired to ensure easier access for residents and tourists alike.

To provide relief to those affected by the calamity, the government has significantly increased the compensation amount by amending the relief manual. The Chief Minister has also reached out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, requesting them to expedite the release of the interim relief funds and the pending sum of Rs 315 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

Detailing the relief and evacuation process carried out amidst the calamity, Sukhu highlighted the government’s efforts in evacuating about 70,000 tourists and 15,000 vehicles safely in record time. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthi played crucial roles in guiding the rescue operations on the ground and evacuating hundreds of individuals, even amidst sub-zero temperatures.

The Chief Minister also discussed the government’s plans to bring about radical changes in the education and health sectors. Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding Schools are being opened in every assembly constituency to provide quality education to rural children. Additionally, modern technology, including robotic surgery, is being incorporated into the healthcare sector across medical colleges in a phased manner.

During the event, a fashion show was organized at Gaiety Theater showcasing traditional and western outfits. Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan welcomed the Chief Minister and praised the excellent quality of Himachal Pradesh’s woolen products. The state government is actively promoting the traditional cuisine, culture, and handlooms of Himachal Pradesh. As part of this promotion, Himachal handloom products will soon showcase a new logo called ‘Himcraft,’ which will be prominently displayed on all the products.

The renaming of the State Handicraft and Handloom Corporation to Himcraft Corporation and the introduction of state-level awards for excellence in the field of handloom and handicrafts reflect the government’s commitment to revitalize the traditional crafts sector and elevate the economy of Himachal Pradesh. The initiatives aim to position the state as a hub for skilled artisans and high-quality handcrafted products, while also recognizing and appreciating the contributions of individuals in this field. The state government is actively pursuing these measures to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant and prosperous in the years to come.
