Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Sunday that the state government will establish a specific task force dedicated to fighting drug abuse. The chief minister stated at a ceremony on the “Pradhav” campaign against drug use that the state government is working to make the Narcotics Act more stringent and enable the confiscation of drug peddlers’ property. The chief minister added that the state administration would create two advanced drug addiction and rehabilitation centres to tackle the addiction and assist recovering individuals effectively. The centres will cover about 50 bighas each and prioritize those who require assistance.
Sukhu emphasized the importance of modernizing the police department and extending the government’s assistance to law enforcement. Furthermore, the state authority had approved constructing four new police stations, three of which will be set up along the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway and another in the Bir district of Kangra.
The Chief Minister mentioned that even in tough financial times, the government remains dedicated to providing citizen-centric governance. Special attention is paid to the health and education sectors. During the event, Sukhu also made anti-drug oaths with attendees.
Himachal Pradesh, a mountainous state, has cited several drug-related incidents in recent years.
The state administration hopes to tackle drug addiction and abuse by implementing the aforementioned initiatives. These initiatives are awaited and anticipated by witnesses, as they are seen as valuable steps to eradicate drug abuse in the state. The Chief Minister maintained his commitment to making Himachal one of the country’s most prosperous states.
