Himachal Pradesh Taxes and Excise Department Revenue Increases by 13%

The revenue of the Himachal Pradesh taxes and excise department has increased by 13% in the current fiscal year until May 31, collecting Rs 1,004 crore compared to Rs 890 crore during the same period last year. The department has been closely looking at the speedy scrutiny of returns, timely completion of GST audits, and capacity building of tax officers to improve GST collection. According to Yunus, commissioner of state taxes and excise, the department has targeted 13 lakh e-way bill verifications during the present financial year. In the first two months of the current financial year, 1.85 lakh e-way bills have been verified with a penalty of Rs 92 lakh collected from violators. The department has detected various non-existing registrations and initiated a 2-month long pan-India special campaign against fraudulent GST registration to prevent false input tax credit claims. During the first phase of this campaign, 8 out of 129 suspected fake firms were identified.
