The annual Hike for Hospice Vaughan event, filled with compassion and community spirit for end-of-life care, returns to Sonoma Heights Park at 100 Sunset Ridge in Woodbridge on June 2.

Hospice Vaughan, the 12-bed palliative care residence and the Mario and Nick Cortellucci Hospice Palliative Care Centre of Excellence opened in 2021 and is the first specialized health-care facility of its kind in Vaughan, according to the non-profit organization’s site.

Registration for the hike, geared for individuals of all ages and abilities, opens at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:30 a.m. Adult and youth tickets are $25 and children 12 years of age and under are free, according to a media release.

Hike for Hospice Vaughan will be a festive atmosphere featuring entertainment, food vendors and activities for children to enjoy. Participants are encouraged to fundraise leading up to the event, with all proceeds benefiting Hospice Vaughan’s programs and services, the release says.

We are thrilled to announce the return of Hike for Hospice Vaughan. This event holds a special place in the hearts of our community as it allows us to come together, celebrate life, and honour the memory of our loved ones. Every step taken and every dollar raised helps ensure that Hospice Vaughan can continue to provide essential services and support to those in need at no charge, Stephanie Karapita, executive director of Hospice Vaughan, says in a media release.

The scenic routes of Sonoma Heights Park can be enjoyed as a stroll or a brisk walk and will include an opportunity for Vaughan residents to join hands to celebrate the enduring legacy of their loved ones while finding strength in the support of those who understand their journey.

As this year’s chair of Hike for Hospice, I walk in honour of my father, in honour of the hundreds of families that have been welcomed through the doors of Hospice Vaughan, and in honour of all of those still to pass through them, Alex Lombardi says in the release.

Hike for Hospice Vaughan encourages donations to be made online or offline. To qualify for fundraising prizes on June 2, hikers should submit fundraising by May 31 at 4 p.m., according to the event’s site.
