High-Profile Man Accused of Rape in Queensland Wins Court Injunction to Protect Identity
A well-known man charged with rape in Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, has obtained a court injunction to maintain his anonymity. The Queensland Police Service did not oppose this decision, as it would be contrary to the interests of justice to name the man before he had an opportunity to apply for a suppression order.
The legal amendments were put forward by the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce, which called for extensive reform of the criminal justice system to better support victims and survivors of sexual assault.
