A high-level investigation team has recently probed into the deaths of tigers at the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (DTR) in Uttar Pradesh. This visit follows the announcement made by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath that he would investigate the matter.
Separate teams visited different spots at DTR to investigate the matter on Saturday; the forest minister visited the forest areas of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve and the Dudhwa buffer zone, while the additional chief secretary (forest) visited Dakeriya village, and Mamata Sanjeev Dubey, head of forest force, visited Bilraya range.
According to a team member, the tigers’ carcasses had all of their organs intact, including claws, so the team ruled out the poaching aspect as the cause of death.
The forest minister will now submit a probe report to the chief minister, which includes details of investigations, the circumstances that led to the tigers’ deaths, actions taken, and suggestions for improving the working situation at the DTR.
One of the issues at the DTR is the shortage of staff. Currently, there are 102 beats and only 34 people on it. More details regarding the DTR can be found in the report.
With this high-level investigation and report, authorities hope to better understand the circumstances leading to the tragic deaths of the tigers and work toward improvements at the reserve.
