High Court Reserves Verdict on TDP Leaders’ Anticipatory Bail Pleas in Angallu Violence Case
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has reserved its verdict on the anticipatory bail pleas filed by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders in connection with the violence that occurred in Angallu during TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s visit on August 4. TDP leaders Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Nallari Kishore Kumar Reddy, and Pulivarthi Nani sought anticipatory bail after cases were registered against them by the Mudivedu police.
During the hearing, Additional Advocate General Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy raised concerns about granting anticipatory bail to the influential TDP leaders, stating that they may manipulate witnesses. He also highlighted that 47 police personnel were injured in the violence. On the other hand, advocates Posani Venkateswara Rao and Sumanth, representing the petitioners, argued that it was members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) who engaged in stone-pelting on Naidu.
In a related case, Justice K Sreenivasa Reddy noted that TDP Politburo member R Srinivasa Reddy was not present at Angallu during the violence. The advocate for Srinivasa Reddy provided flight tickets as evidence, showing his client’s travel on August 4 from Kadapa to Hyderabad and then to Delhi. The Additional Advocate General defended the police’s decision to register a case based on witness testimonies, stating that a boarding pass could be obtained even from a house. Additionally, he argued that a quash petition could not be filed for a case registered under Section 307.
The High Court’s verdict on the TDP leaders’ anticipatory bail pleas is anticipated with much interest, as it will determine the next course of action in this contentious case. The court has taken into consideration arguments from both sides, and the decision is now eagerly awaited, which will shed light on the legal implications surrounding the Angallu violence case.
