HIF Global, a leading player in the eFuels industry, has joined forces with Technip Energies to launch a state-of-the-art eFuels facility in northern Tasmania. This exciting collaboration aims to explore various technological avenues and kickstart the design process for the facility, which is set to produce around 100 million liters of carbon-neutral eFuel annually.
One of the major advantages of eFuel is that it can power vehicles, aircraft, and ships without requiring any modifications. Therefore, the proposed HIF Tasmania eFuels Facility, strategically located just 30 kilometers from Burnie, holds great potential for reducing global transport emissions. Ignacio Hernandez, the CEO of HIF Asia Pacific, expressed his commitment to driving the energy transition by partnering with industry leaders and emphasized the goal of submitting a development application by 2024. He also highlighted the positive impact the facility could have on the local economy, projecting the creation of approximately 200 full-time jobs and the potential to offset the carbon footprint of nearly 60,000 vehicles.
Paul Browne, the managing director of Technip Energies’ Kuala Lumpur Operating Centre, conveyed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating that aligning with a pioneer in eFuel production like HIF Global reinforces their shared vision for a sustainable future. Browne also expressed eagerness to cultivate a strong partnership capable of delivering a universally viable fuel solution.
HIF Global’s venture into Tasmania is their first in Australia, following the successful establishment of their Haru Oni Demonstration Facility in Magallanes, Chile. This exciting foray into the Australian market will be followed by the planned HIF Matagorda eFuels Facility in Texas, scheduled to begin operations by 2024.
eFuels are created using electrolyzers powered by green energy sources, such as wind or solar power. These electrolyzers separate hydrogen from water, and when combined with recycled carbon dioxide, produce carbon-neutral eFuels. Importantly, these eFuels are chemically identical to conventional fuels, allowing for seamless integration into existing engines without the need for any modifications.
The collaboration between HIF Global and Technip Energies marks a significant milestone in the advancement of eFuels production.
