Hermiston School District to Organize Fifth Graders’ Outdoor School Trips; Chaperones Urgently Needed

Hermiston, Oregon – The Hermiston School District has announced an exciting opportunity for fifth-grade students to embark on Outdoor School trips, starting from Monday, September 18th. This experiential learning program aims to provide students with a unique understanding of nature and the environment. However, to make these trips a success, the district is urgently seeking adult chaperones who can volunteer and ensure the safety of students during their overnight stays.

The first school to participate in the Outdoor School program will be West Park Elementary, scheduled for September 18th-20th. Following that, Desert View Elementary will embark on their adventure from September 20th-22nd, succeeded by Highland Hills Elementary from September 25th-27th. Loma Vista Elementary will then have the opportunity to explore nature’s wonders from September 27th-29th. The penultimate school to partake in this year’s Outdoor School trips will be Rocky Heights Elementary, scheduled for October 2nd-4th. Lastly, Sunset Elementary will conclude the program from October 4th-6th.

The district is still actively seeking adult chaperones to support and supervise students during their nights away from home. To be eligible, interested individuals must complete a thorough background check at the Hermiston School District office. The office is conveniently located at 305 S.W. 11th St., Hermiston. For further information on the Outdoor School program or to express your interest in becoming an adult chaperone, please contact the district office at 541-667-6000.

Outdoor School trips are an incredible opportunity for students to engage with the great outdoors, learn about various ecosystems, and develop vital life skills. By spending quality time amidst nature, children gain valuable experiential learning experiences that go beyond the confines of a traditional classroom. Whether it’s exploring wildlife, studying plants, or understanding the importance of conservation, Outdoor School trips create lasting memories and foster a deep connection with the environment.

These trips not only provide educational benefits but also contribute to the overall development of children. By challenging themselves outside the familiar school environment, students build resilience, independence, and teamwork skills. It is an opportunity for them to face the unfamiliar and embrace personal growth.

However, the success of these trips heavily relies on adult support and supervision. Chaperones play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during the nights spent away from home. As mentors and guides, they create a nurturing environment where students feel secure, encouraging them to actively engage and make the most of their Outdoor School experience.

The Hermiston School District invites community members to come forward and support these young learners on their Outdoor School trips. By volunteering as a chaperone, you can make a significant impact on the lives of these fifth-grade students, contributing to their education and personal growth. Take this opportunity to connect with local youth, create lasting memories, and be a part of their transformative Outdoor School experience.

In conclusion, the Hermiston School District has announced the commencement of fifth graders’ Outdoor School trips, scheduled from September 18th to October 6th. These trips provide students with invaluable educational and personal growth opportunities. However, the district is in urgent need of adult chaperones to ensure student safety and maximize the impact of these trips. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Hermiston School District office as soon as possible. Join the journey of discovery, exploration, and connection to nature with the young minds of Hermiston.
