Heavy Rains and Landslides Devastate Himachal Pradesh, Leave Dozens Dead

Over the past few days, heavy rains and landslides have wreaked havoc in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the tragic loss of dozens of lives. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his grief over the deaths and extended wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.

The news of heavy rains and landslides in Himachal Pradesh in the last few days, killing many people is very painful. We stand with all the victims in this sad time, Kharge tweeted.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu provided a devastating update on the situation, revealing that more than 50 people have lost their lives within the past 24 hours due to landslides and continuous rainfall in the area. He also expressed concerns that over 20 people are feared to be trapped under debris.

In response to this dire situation, ongoing search and rescue efforts are in progress within the region. To focus on these life-saving efforts, the state has decided not to hold any cultural festivities for Independence Day.

The areas of Punjab and Haryana which are bordering states to Himachal Pradesh may receive heavy rains, said Manmohan Singh, Director of the Meteorological Department.

As the news of this devastating calamity spreads, India and the global community come together to support the affected families and enable swift recovery efforts. The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, along with central government agencies, is coordinating rescue operations to locate and save those trapped under debris.

The Himachal Pradesh government has also urged residents and travelers to exercise caution and to follow safety protocols during this period of continued rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of rain in areas of Punjab and Haryana for the next two to three days, adding to the concerns of the already affected regions.

We express our condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to the injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Himachal Pradesh during this difficult time, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge stated.

The devastating impact of heavy rains and landslides in Himachal Pradesh serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of communities to natural disasters. As the state and central government continue their rescue and relief operations, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected populace.
