Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for Odisha as IMD Advises Fishermen to Stay Ashore
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the state of Odisha for the next two days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period. The IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha, particularly in the northern parts of the state.
According to IMD scientist HR Biswas, the heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next 24 hours in the North Odisha districts and other regions. He emphasized the importance of fishermen adhering to the advisory and staying ashore to ensure their safety.
The regional center of the IMD in Andhra Pradesh has reported a well-marked low-pressure area in the central parts of the Bay of Bengal, which has now developed into a depression. The depression is expected to further intensify into a deep depression and move northwestward. It is projected to cross the Bangladesh coast near Khepupara later today. Subsequently, it will likely move west-northwestward across Gangetic West Bengal within the next 24 hours.
Samuel Stella, Director of Amaravati Meteorological Centre, explained that the depression formed in the northeast Bay of Bengal, positioned approximately 200 km southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 430 km east-southeast of Digha (West Bengal). Stella stated that it is likely to intensify into a deep depression and make landfall in Bangladesh’s Khepupara region.
The IMD’s warnings and predictions are crucial in guiding the public and relevant authorities to take necessary precautions and ensure the safety of the people during severe weather conditions. It is vital for fishermen to heed the advisory and refrain from venturing into the sea to prevent any potential accidents or mishaps.
As the heavy rainfall continues to lash Odisha, it is imperative for residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and take appropriate measures to mitigate the impact of the inclement weather. This includes ensuring proper drainage systems, inspecting infrastructure for potential vulnerabilities, and keeping emergency response teams on standby.
The IMD’s continuous monitoring and forecasting of weather conditions play a pivotal role in safeguarding lives and minimizing damages caused by natural disasters. Their timely warnings enable individuals, communities, and relevant agencies to make informed decisions and respond effectively in the face of adverse weather events.
It is advised that residents in the affected areas stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and follow the instructions provided by local authorities. By working together and staying prepared, Odisha can better endure the heavy rainfall and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
