Heavy Rainfall Triggers Rising Water Levels in Chhatarpur District: Alert Issued to Villagers Along Big Rivers
Heavy rainfall in Chhatarpur district over the past three days has resulted in a significant rise in water levels across ponds and rivers. Consequently, the district administration has issued an alert to villagers residing along the banks of the big rivers, as the water levels continue to rapidly increase.
One of the key factors contributing to the rising water levels is the discharge of water from the Sujara dam. As a result, the Lahchura dam, constructed on the Dhasan river in the Harpalpur area, has reached its full capacity. To manage the water volume, officials from the irrigation department in Mahoba have opened eight out of the dam’s 17 doors, releasing a staggering 54,000 cusecs of water.
Providing reassurance, Vinod Khara, the assistant engineer of the irrigation department, stated that the water level of the dam has not reached a dangerous stage, alleviating concerns of potential hazards. Khara also mentioned that approximately 20,000 cusecs of water were released into the Dhasan river on Friday night.
With the Lahchura dam already filled to its capacity, the excess water is being used to fill the Arjun feeder canal. Around 600 cusecs of water are being released from it. Additionally, water is being supplied to the main canal of the Dhasan river for irrigation purposes. To ensure the safety of residents, an alert has been issued to those living in the villages situated along the banks of the Dhasan river. Fishing activities and grazing of cattle near the river have been specifically discouraged.
