The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Sindhudurg, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall. The alert followed an orange alert, warning of intense rainfall, for Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Pune, and Satara. The southwest monsoon has advanced over Mumbai and Delhi, and parts of Maharashtra have already experienced heavy rainfall. The alert has been issued to caution the public about the weather conditions and its impact. Regions like Raigad and Ratnagiri received an orange alert specifically due to the heavy rainfall.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai, the city received 104 mm of rainfall, and the eastern and western suburbs received 123 mm and 139 mm of rainfall, respectively. Earlier this month, heavy rainfall triggered waterlogging that led to the closing of the Andheri subway in Mumbai for vehicular movements. The traffic was diverted towards the Swami Vivekananda road, and the IMD had issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy rainfall.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted that the rainfall intensity will gradually increase over parts of Maharashtra during the next 4-5 days, indicating the possibility of expected severe weather. The monsoon had hit several parts of the country recently, providing relief from the scorching heat. On June 25, the IMD had issued an Orange warning to 13 districts in Odisha. On June 26, a yellow alert was issued in the Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts of Kerala, and Himachal Pradesh received an orange alert amid the incessant rain in the North Indian hill state.
The weather department continues to monitor the situation and will provide regular updates on the weather conditions. The public is advised to stay cautious during the heavy rainfall and take necessary precautions to avoid any harm or damage.
