Heather Small Returns to Liverpool After No-Brainer Offer

Heather Small, former singer of M People, is set to return to Liverpool for the festive season as a special guest performer at Bongo’s Bingo’s Step Into Christmas events. The 58-year-old songstress revealed that she jumped at the opportunity to perform at the popular party event after learning about its cultural significance and immense popularity.

Small expressed her excitement, stating, People in the North were like it’s an institution and it’s nice to do something that’s so loved in the community. I always say I’m an adopted northerner so it’s like coming home.

Bongo’s Bingo’s Step Into Christmas events will take place at Content on various dates throughout December. Small, who wasn’t initially aware of the event, recognized the opportunity as a chance to be a part of something cherished within the community. She emphasized the importance of finding joy in activities like this during challenging times, saying, It’s just pure fun and right now there’s so many things that aren’t fun so it’s lovely to be involved. I get to sing and see people at their happiest so it’s definitely a yes.

Reflecting on her experience with Bongo’s Bingo so far, Small noted the perfect fit between the event and Liverpool’s energetic atmosphere. She remarked, That appreciation of music and love of live entertainment is in the Liverpudlian DNA. There’s that community spirit and a sense of fun, so it does make sense that it was able to start in Liverpool and that it’s been able to carry that Liverpudlian spirit throughout the globe.

Small’s songs, including hits like Proud and Moving On Up, have transcended time and resonated with audiences of all ages. She attributed their lasting impact to the universal themes of resilience and triumphing over adversity they embody, particularly resonant with Liverpool’s community. It doesn’t matter who you are and what you start off with in life. There are times when life is going to be difficult. I’ve always felt that you can acknowledge that it’s difficult but I like to roll my sleeves up, get on with it and see a way out. That’s the way I was brought up by my mother, she explained.

Merseyside holds a special place in Small’s heart as she has fond memories of her friend’s wedding at the town hall. Spending Christmas with her close network on Merseyside will allow her to cultivate connections further. The singer commended Scouse audiences, appreciating their vibrant energy and the positive impact it has on her performances. You feel the crowd is with you from the get-go. That kind of reassurance brings out a better performance from any artist. It’s their willingness to be part of the game really early. What you give is what you get and [a Liverpool crowd] gives a lot, she revealed.

Despite a career spanning nearly four decades, Small remains as passionate as ever. Her schedule for next year is already brimming, but the singer thrives on a busy routine, expressing gratitude for the privilege of pursuing her love for music. I never forget what a privilege it is to get up in front of people, sing and do what my heart desires. I’m living a dream, she shared.

As for her involvement with Bongo’s Bingo, Small is relishing the experience and the surprises it brings every night. The event, founded in Liverpool in 2015 by Jonny Bongo and Joshua Burke, offers partygoers a chance to win an array of prizes, ranging from pink unicorns to significant cash sums. Small has already set her sights high, playfully commenting, They’re going to open in New York so performing in New York would be the best prize for me. I’m just saying Jonny…
