Health Minister Aims to Expand Organ Transplants in Every College by 2024
The Union Health Minister and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya, has announced plans to ensure that every medical college in the country has the facility for organ transplants by the end of 2024. This initiative aims to improve access to organ transplants and save countless lives.
Speaking at an organ donation pledge program in Agra, Minister Mandaviya emphasized the importance of increasing the availability of machines, doctors, and training in medical colleges to facilitate organ transplants. To support this endeavor, the government will provide financial assistance of Rs 1.25 crore to any hospital wishing to open an organ transplant facility. Additionally, patients undergoing organ transplants will receive financial assistance of Rs 10,000 per month from the central government to cover medication costs and necessary tests.
The Minister stated that the goal of the government is to increase organ donation from the current rate of 2 percent to an impressive 60 percent. Organ donation plays a crucial role in saving lives, as one person’s donation can provide a new lease on life for another individual.
During the event, Minister Mandaviya also highlighted the government’s commitment to providing free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh to 60 crore people through the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He encouraged individuals to obtain Ayushman cards during the upcoming Seva Pakhwada campaign from September 17 to October 2.
The Union Health Minister further mentioned the significant increase in available MBBS seats in the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the number of seats has doubled in the past nine years, going from 54,000 to 1.07 lakh. This expansion ensures that aspiring medical students no longer need to go abroad to pursue their education.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in a video message, lauded the Organ Donation Pledge initiative and urged attendees to pledge their organs. He emphasized the profound impact organ donation can have in giving new life to those in need.
The government’s efforts to expand organ transplantation facilities and promote organ donation will make a substantial difference in addressing the scarcity of organs for transplantation. By prioritizing the availability of machines, doctors, and training, the government aims to ensure that every medical college in the country can offer this life-saving procedure by 2024. Through these collective efforts, the nation can increase the rate of organ donation, providing hope and a second chance at life to countless individuals in need.
