Panic struck the residents of Adarsh Nagar in Ludhiana when a headless body was discovered stuffed in a gunny bag on Chandigarh Road. The police were immediately informed, and an investigation was initiated at the scene. The body was later sent to the civil hospital for a postmortem examination, while the Division number 7 police lodged a murder case against an unidentified suspect.

The victim has been identified as Pankaj from Bihar. The police were able to identify him from the documents found in his clothes. Pankaj’s father, who used to work for the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), has since retired and now resides in Mohali.

Local residents reported spotting the bag on the street in the morning, and they were initially under the impression that it was a garbage bag that had fallen from a sanitary worker’s cycle cart. Little did they know that the bag contained a shocking discovery. Upon closer inspection, they found a headless body inside and immediately alerted the authorities.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, east), Gurdev Singh, the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, indicating that the murder had taken place several days earlier. It is suspected that the assailant discarded the body late on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage in the area in hopes of identifying the person responsible. Furthermore, the ACP revealed that the fingers on both hands had been severed at the proximal phalanx, suggesting a potential act of personal vengeance.

In addition to launching a search for the missing head, the police conducted thorough investigations in the surrounding areas and even checked the sewerage line. Given the weight of the gunny bag, it is believed that the murder took place nearby, as it would have been challenging to transport such a heavy load over a long distance.

This distressing incident follows several similar occurrences in the region. On April 16, the Railway police discovered a headless body on the tracks in Doraha. Subsequently, on April 22, the headless body of a 24-year-old man was found in a canal near Buyani village in Doraha. Additionally, on February 11, 2022, villagers in Raikot stumbled upon the decapitated body of a newborn baby in the school playground of Gobindgarh village, where dogs were feasting on it.

Authorities are determined to solve these gruesome crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice. As investigations continue, residents of Adarsh Nagar are anxiously awaiting answers and hoping that such heinous acts will not recur in their peaceful community.
