Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie is ecstatic after leading his team to victory in the final of the Currie Cup. The Cheetahs beat the Pumas 25-17 to clinch their seventh title. Fourie described the win as a dream come true, as he had been supporting the team since he was a child. The match was evenly balanced with both teams taking the lead at different points. However, the Cheetahs’ senior players, including the evergreen Ruan Pienaar, proved crucial to their victory. Fourie praised Pienaar’s ability and dedication to the game, and called him an unbelievable person, rugby player, and father.
Fourie also expressed relief that he had finally broken what he called his bad luck streak since returning as head coach in 2019. Despite their loss, Pumas captain Shane Kirkwood was proud of his team’s performance and claimed that it was only the players and management that believed they could make back-to-back finals. Kirkwood hailed the achievement as massive for the team and the Mpumalanga union.
