Havas, the global advertising and communications company, has acquired a majority stake in Uncommon Creative Studio, a London-based creative agency. The move aims to help Uncommon reach a value of over $150 million dollars by 2030. The founders of Uncommon, Natalie Graeme, Lucy Jameson, and Nils Leonard, will retain a 49% stake in the business.

Uncommon, which was founded in 2017 by the trio of ex-Grey London executives, positions itself as the creative company for leaders and founders in a moment of change. The agency has gained recognition for its innovative campaigns and recently won its first Cannes Lions Grand Prix for its A British Original billboard campaign for British Airways.

Under the agreement, Uncommon will become part of the Havas Creative network but will operate independently, maintaining its entrepreneurial zest. The agency’s U.K. client roster includes British broadcaster ITV and British Airways. In the U.S., Uncommon has already worked with brands such as Google and Nike Jordan. With the support of Havas, Uncommon plans to open a New York office to further expand its presence in the market.

In addition to the business opportunities provided by Havas, Uncommon will benefit from being part of the wider Vivendi group, which owns Universal Music Group, Canal+, StudioCanal and Gameloft. The founders of Uncommon believe this partnership will open doors globally for their agency, allowing them to accelerate their growth in various sectors, including entertainment, design, gaming, and other geographies.

Yannick Bolloré, Havas’ global chairman and chief executive, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that Uncommon brings new energy, creativity, and audiences to Havas. He highlighted the shared vision of the two companies in their commitment to showcasing the power of creativity.

The deal will not result in any layoffs at Uncommon, with plans instead to hire more staff for the agency’s new U.S. office. Uncommon currently employs 169 people, and this expansion will contribute to the company’s continued growth and success.

Havas’ acquisition of a majority stake in Uncommon demonstrates their recognition of the agency’s exceptional capabilities and potential for further success. The partnership will provide Uncommon with the resources and support needed to expand its client base and reach new markets, while preserving its independent and innovative approach to creativity. Going forward, Uncommon will continue to make its mark in the advertising industry with its unique and disruptive campaigns.
