The Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar, has announced that farmers who suffered crop damage due to unseasonal rains in March and April this year will receive a total compensation of Rs 181 crore ($24 million). The funds will be transferred directly to the accounts of 67,758 affected farmers through the e-Kshatipurti portal, as part of the state’s efforts to ensure timely compensation. During his assessment tour of rain-affected villages, Khattar identified damage in 2.09 lakh acres across 18 districts, including wheat, mustard, and rapeseed crops. The compensation will be the first payment made directly to farmers’ accounts. The farmers will not have to register anywhere other than on the ‘Meri Fasal – Mera Byora’ portal. Khattar emphasised the importance of prompt compensation and stated that gone are the days when it took years for farmers to receive compensation for crop loss. The e-kshatipurti portal is a historic step towards ensuring transparency in the process of awarding compensation.
