GURGAON: Nishant Kumar Yadav, the District Election Officer and DC of Gurgaon, stated that voters above the age of 85 and those with a disability of more than 40 percent will be provided with pick and drop facilities to the polling stations on May 25. This decision was made after many of these voters expressed their desire to vote at the polling centers, despite having the option to vote from home. The information was shared during a meeting held at the Mini Secretariat’s conference hall on Friday evening, which included discussions with SWEEP, MCMC (Media Certification and Monitoring Committee), and other committees.

According to DC Yadav, there are 50,790 registered voters in the Gurgaon who fall under the category of being over 85 years old or having more than 40 percent disability. These voters can register their details by calling the district election office’s toll-free number 1950 to avail the pick and drop services. Each voter will be assigned one government official and one volunteer for their transportation. In an effort to increase voter turnout, the district will display voter awareness slogans on the Rajiv Chowk flyover and set up demonstrations of EVMs, VVPATs, and control units in public places. Additionally, ‘Raahgiri’ events and flash mobs will be organized in malls.

During the meeting, the District Election Officer also instructed the MCMC committee to closely monitor paid news in print and electronic media. A control room has been set up on the fifth floor of the Mini Secretariat to monitor advertisements and misleading news, with a team of employees also overseeing social media. Bijendra Kumar, the Secretary of MCMC and the District Information and Public Relations Officer, informed that no candidate has applied for the certification of their advertisements in electronic or print media so far.
