Guntur Municipal Corporation Bags Swachh Survekshan-2023 Award
Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has emerged victorious, securing the esteemed Swachh Survekshan Award-2023, presented by the Union Ministry of Urban Development. The award will be conferred upon Mayor Kavati Siva Naga Manohar Naidu and GMC Commissioner Kirthi Chekuri at a prestigious ceremony in New Delhi on January 11, in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu.
In a remarkable achievement, GMC has achieved the coveted ODF++ rank in the Swachh Survekshan for 2023. The city has also secured a five-star ranking for its exceptional cleanliness standards, along with Vizag, Vijayawada, and Tirupati.
Swachh Survekshan, initiated by the Central government in 2016, takes various factors into account, such as sanitation practices, door-to-door waste collection, segregation of dry and wet waste, and public opinion on cleanliness. The rankings are awarded at both the national and state levels.
Last year, GMC secured an impressive 108th rank nationally and the 7th rank within the state for cities with a population of less than ten lakhs. With the introduction of efficient measures such as door-to-door garbage collection, the implementation of RFID tags, establishing clusters based on ward secretariats, and the use of e-autos for garbage collection, GMC is optimistic about achieving an even better rank this year.
Further exemplifying its commitment to cleanliness, GMC previously attained the third position in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan at the national level.
