Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited (GACL) has taken a significant step towards reducing India’s dependency on pharmaceutical imports by flagging off the first shipment of Hydrazine Hydrate and Purified Phosphoric Acid. Currently, India imports Hydrazine Hydrate from Europe and other countries. However, with the establishment of a commercial-scale plant in Dahej, GACL aims to produce this essential chemical domestically, thereby saving valuable foreign exchange.

In collaboration with the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, GACL has received patents from India and the USA for its indigenous process to manufacture Hydrazine Hydrate (H6N2O). This not only demonstrates the high-quality standards of the product but also showcases India’s capability to be self-sufficient in the production of pharmaceuticals.

Hydrazine Hydrate finds applications in various industries such as pesticides, agrochemicals, water treatment, and pharmaceuticals, to name a few. By locally manufacturing this import substitute product, GACL is not only providing a viable alternative to imported hydrazine hydrate but also ensuring the availability of a world-class product to meet the demands of these industries.

The establishment of the Hydrazine Hydrate plant is not the only endeavor by GACL to reduce India’s dependency on imports. The country also faces a shortage of Purified Phosphoric Acid, with an annual import of approximately 35,000 metric tons. To address this issue, GACL has set up a Purified Phosphoric Acid plant with a capacity of 33,870 metric tons at its Dahej location. This move will help reduce the reliance on imported chemicals and enable more self-sufficiency within the nation.

Purified Phosphoric Acid is widely used in industries such as sugar refining, edible oil refining, beverages, and pharmaceuticals. By domestically producing this essential chemical, GACL aims to cater to the needs of these industries and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The establishment of both the Hydrazine Hydrate and Purified Phosphoric Acid plants underlines GACL’s commitment to supporting India’s pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. These initiatives not only enhance the nation’s self-reliance but also create opportunities for employment and contribute to the overall development of the country.

With the successful flag-off of the first shipment, GACL has taken a significant step towards reducing India’s dependency on imported pharmaceuticals. By manufacturing Hydrazine Hydrate and Purified Phosphoric Acid domestically, GACL is positioning itself as a major player in the country’s chemical industry. The patents awarded for their indigenous manufacturing process further solidify GACL’s reputation for producing high-quality products.

Overall, GACL’s efforts exemplify the country’s push for self-reliance and showcase the potential of the Indian pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. By creating a sustainable domestic supply of essential chemicals, GACL aims to contribute to the growth of these industries and reduce India’s reliance on imports.
