GREENFIELD — The Greenfield-Central school board held its first meeting of the year on Jan. 8, electing officers and appointing representatives for various boards in the community. The officers, who will continue in the same roles they held last year, include Dan Brown as president, Hillary Close as vice president, Dr. Lori Wean as secretary, John Rihm as treasurer, and Clark Smith as second vice president.

The board also approved appointments to key positions within the community. Jeannie Roberts will continue representing the school board on the Hancock County Public Library’s board, while Rihm will remain as the representative for the school system on the Greenfield Parks Department board. Rihm will also serve on Greenfield’s redevelopment commission. Additionally, Becky Riley was appointed as the school board’s representative on the city of Greenfield’s planning board.

Clark Smith has been appointed as the corporation’s legislative liaison with the Indiana School Boards Association.

It is important to note that while non-board members can be appointed annually, school board members are elected to serve the corporation in four-year terms.

Dr. Lori Wean, the board secretary, highlighted the significance of open communication and transparency in her role. She stated, As board secretary, I am committed to ensuring effective communication and transparency. Our community deserves to be well-informed about the decisions and policies that impact our schools.

The appointments to various boards were met with enthusiasm and optimism. Jeannie Roberts, the representative for the Hancock County Public Library’s board, expressed her dedication to fostering the relationship between the library and the school district. She stated, I am excited to continue my role as the school board’s representative on the library board. By working together, we can enhance the resources available to our students and promote a love for reading and learning.

As the representative for the Greenfield Parks Department board and member of the redevelopment commission, John Rihm looks forward to contributing to the community’s growth. He said, I am honored to continue serving the school system on both the Parks Department board and the redevelopment commission. These roles provide opportunities to shape the future of Greenfield and create a welcoming environment for our students and families.
