Green Bay Blizzard Announces 2023 Team Awards: Marquise Irvin named Offensive Player of the Year

The Green Bay Blizzard has recently revealed the recipients of their 2023 team awards. These awards are voted on annually by players, coaches, and staff following the conclusion of every Indoor Football League (IFL) season. Among the honored individuals is wide receiver Marquise Irvin, who has been named the Offensive Player of the Year.

Irvin, in his second season in the IFL, emerged as a dominant force for the Blizzard offense. Throughout the season, he showcased his skills and proved to be a reliable playmaker. With a total of 71 receptions, 886 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns, Irvin played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Offensive Coordinator Matt Behrendt praised Irvin’s consistency and emphasized his significance to the team, stating, Quise is a bigtime playmaker that you can always rely on in any situation. He’s as consistent as they come. Our offense was scary when he was on the field.

On the defensive front, rookie defensive back Ravarius Rivers received the recognition of being the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Despite joining the team six weeks into the season, Rivers quickly made his mark in the Blizzard secondary. He emerged as a key contributor and ended the year as the team leader in total tackles, while also securing several interceptions. Head Coach Corey Roberson applauded Rivers’ impact, describing him as a great addition to a secondary that needed some help. Roberson further commended Rivers for his unwavering dedication to learning and understanding the game, which translated into his impressive on-field performance.

Amidst a season marked by injuries and changes, one player stood out for his unwavering consistency. Center Trent Clark, the only constant in an ever-changing offensive line, has been named the Lineman of the Year. Clark demonstrated remarkable dependability and leadership as a team captain, playing in every game without fail. Offensive/Defensive Line Coach Dean Picotte commended Clark’s toughness, both mentally and physically, stating, Trent epitomizes mental and physical toughness, and his character on and off the field is exactly what the Blizzard organization looks for in their players.

Another notable recognition went to Mike Green and Shaq Curenton, who were jointly awarded the Co-Special Teams Player of the Year honors. Green showcased his electrifying skills on kick returns, accumulating an impressive total of 646 yards and securing a 55-yard touchdown return. Special Teams Coordinator Mike Bonner commended Green’s selflessness and coachability, recognizing him as a player with exceptional playmaking abilities. Curenton, on the other hand, impressed with his versatility and contributions in various special teams roles such as blocking, tackling, and long snapping. Bonner expressed admiration for Curenton’s commitment and the impact he made on the field.

Running back Terrence Smith earned the title of Servant Leader, awarded to a player who made a difference not only on the field but also in the locker room and the community. Traded to the Blizzard shortly before training camp, Smith proved to be a valuable asset to the team throughout the season. Accumulating a total of 742 offensive yards and scoring 26 touchdowns, Smith showcased his professionalism, dedication, and passion for the game. Behrendt praised Smith as a remarkable individual to coach, describing him as a player who brings a positive attitude, professionalism, and genuine love for football to the team.

Lastly, veteran defensive lineman Deldrick Canty received the Joe Lunch Bucket award, honoring his unwavering work ethic and dedication. Canty’s consistency and leadership significantly contributed to the Blizzard’s performance throughout the season. Coach Roberson highlighted Canty’s accountability and described him as the embodiment of a team captain who consistently delivered on and off the field.

The Green Bay Blizzard’s 2023 team awards celebrate the exceptional performances and contributions made by these talented individuals. As the team looks forward to future seasons, their achievements serve as a testament to the hard work, skill, and dedication displayed by the players, coaches, and staff.
